Content Overview
The activity will:

Define organizational capacity as the resources and capabilities necessary to achieve departmental and organizational goals.

Examine seven key capacity domains: staffing budget, technology, equipment and space, infrastructure and utilities, instrument inventory, supplies, and maintenance programs.

Define operational performance as the effective management of people, processes, daily operations, and technology.

Review performance management principles including staffing analysis, standard work compliance, daily production management, capacity balancing, and technology utilization.

Discuss how gaps in capacity and performance impact quality, efficiency, and patient safety outcomes.
This activity provides practical, evidence-informed strategies to help perioperative and sterile processing leaders evaluate current operations, identify improvement opportunities, and implement sustainable performance enhancements.

Dr. Marjorie Wall, EDBA, MSCO, CRCST, CIS, CHL, CSSBB, is a nationally recognized leader in sterile processing and perioperative services with more than two decades dedicated to strengthening patient safety, operational quality, and workforce development. Known for her thoughtful and collaborative leadership approach, she has guided large-scale operational improvement efforts, advanced competency-based training, and contributed to initiatives that continue to shape the sterile processing f ield. Her career spans executive leadership, professional association governance, and interdisciplinary collaboration, reflecting a consistent focus on elevating standards, supporting frontline teams, and advancing the strategic role of sterile processing in surgical care. She also serves as an educator, author, keynote speaker, and editorial advisory board member, sharing insights on quality, innovation, and the future of reprocessing. Dr. Wall holds an Executive Doctorate in Business Administration and a Master of Science in Clinical Service Operations at Harvard Medical School.
