Maternal Health Advocate
Rachell M. Dumas, MSN, RN, DNP(c) is a former operating room nurse, maternal health advocate, and nurse informaticist. After enduring multiple pregnancy losses and surviving two brain surgeries for a neurological condition that was initially misdiagnosed as a gastrointestinal illness, Rachell transformed her pain into purpose. She founded A Light After Nine, a nonprofit that supports families navigating pregnancy and infant loss, and SpeakRx, a health technology platform designed to improve patient advocacy, communication, and safety in healthcare systems. Her work bridges clinical expertise, lived experience, and digital innovation to reimagine how healthcare listens to and learns from patients. Through both her nonprofit and healthtech initiatives, Rachellcontinues to elevate conversations around surgical safety, reproductive justice, and patient empowerment—championing a future where every patient’s voice informs better outcomes.
